🎥 Mental Health Self-Assessment: How Are You Really Doing?

Hello, dear Mindful Recovery Hub community 💙

Sometimes, life feels heavy. Stress builds, emotions swirl, and it can be hard to know what’s normal and what might be a sign that your mental health needs attention. That’s where a mental health self-assessment quiz comes in: not as a label, but as a compassionate check-in with yourself.

This post is here to help you take a step back and gently explore what’s going on inside. Using trusted mental health screening tools and easy-to-follow video resources, you’ll learn how to assess your emotional well-being and recognize when it might be time to seek extra support.

In just a few minutes, this video will walk you through common behavioral health questionnaires and emotional red flags using symptom severity ratings. Keep a notebook nearby or use your phone notes to jot down what resonates.

Taking time to check in on your mental well-being doesn’t mean something is “wrong.” It means you’re aware, brave, and ready to take care of yourself just like going to the doctor for a physical.

Psychological assessment instruments and psychiatric assessment protocols are used in clinical settings to guide professionals but many of these tools can be adapted for personal use to identify patterns or concerns.

✍️ Try It Yourself: Mini Quiz Inspired by Clinical Evaluation Procedures

For each question, rate from 0 (not at all) to 3 (nearly every day):

  1. I’ve been feeling down, hopeless, or uninterested in things I usually enjoy.
  2. I have trouble sleeping or sleep too much.
  3. I feel anxious or restless more often than not.
  4. I struggle to concentrate or feel mentally foggy.
  5. I feel disconnected from others or isolate myself often.
  6. I have frequent mood swings or emotional outbursts.
  7. I feel like I’m constantly overwhelmed or on edge.

Total Score:

  • 0–7: Low concern, but continue self-care and check in regularly.
  • 8–14: Moderate concern. Consider reaching out to a mental wellness coach or counselor.
  • 15–21: High concern. It may be time for a comprehensive evaluation process with a professional.

🧩 Tools used in this quiz mirror simplified versions of diagnostic interview schedules, mental status examinations, and risk assessment measures.

After taking the assessments and the mini quiz:

What’s one action you’ll take this week to support your mental wellness?
